ReVerse Butcher is an early member of the Immersivist movement. A highly awarded artist, her work shows how Immersivist art already occupies high-end galleries.
ReVerse Butcher (rVb) is a VR/AR/XR artist & poet. She makes virtual sculptures, immersive experiences, films, music, performances, & visual poetry (VISPO).
She creates bold, experiential artworks that act as interventions, exploring the complexity and necessity of existing across multiple worlds. In using VR as a fine artist, rVb is occupying the space between the classical & the future-facing.
As a Queer, Female artist, she is very focused on disrupting established patriarchal power dynamics. She wants audiences to question the meaning of ‘embodiment’; what it means to be in a position to define what ‘reality’ is; to celebrate diverse representations; & to experience bleeding-edge artforms within the creative continuum of fine art.
With a career spanning over 20 years, rVb utilizes a versatile creative pipeline to create digital-traditional hybrid artworks designed for flexible delivery. She makes virtual sculptures natively in VR using Open Brush & Shapelab; & composes original soundtracks in VirtuosoVR; using a Quest 3 & Metabox Laptop. Combining filmmaking, video projection, live/livestreamed performances, & virtual world building, she adapts her work to diverse exhibition contexts. However, rVb will use any medium necessary or available to engage & subvert reality until it is less dull & oppressive.
She currently lives in Ballarat, Australia.
